Lighting a vanilla scented candle after dinner is said to suppress your craving for dessert. If you do not have a candle, anything else with a vanilla-like smell can work as an alternative. In a study, participants who wore vanilla-scented patches lost an average of 4.5 pounds. Putting vanilla scented candles all around your kitchen and dining room can help lighten your mood while satiating cravings.

It is said that eating out of blue crockery may lead to weight loss, as the colour suppresses appetite. Blue is a colour which is not naturally spotted in edible things like fruits and vegetables. Meanwhile, yellow and red colours are said to increase your appetite, and can often be spotted in the interior decoration of restaurants and fast-food joints.
It is said that eating in front of a mirror, makes you self-conscious and reminds you of your weight-loss goals, thereby making you eat within limits. One study found dining in front of mirrors cut the amount people ate by nearly one-third. Apart from controlling your portion, the mirror is especially helpful if you are going to eat something high on calories.
In a taste test study, published in the Journal of the Association for Consumer Research, 185 undergraduate students chose between a chocolate cake and a fruit salad and then evaluated its taste in a room with a mirror or with no mirrors around. Those who selected the chocolate cake rated it less tasty in the room with a mirror compared to those with no mirrors around. Interestingly, too, the presence of a mirror did not change the taste of the fruit salad.

Popping a piece of gum in your mouth can assist in weight loss efforts, mostly when dealing with a craving. When you feel like snacking, instead of binging on chips or chocolate or ice cream, go for a chewing gum. This will distract your mind from the desire to eat for the sake of it and the sweet taste of the gum will also satisfy your taste buds.
