How many times have you heard these claims on water? Innumerable, for sure!
Water, no doubt, is a wonder and blessing for human beings. Water is vital to human existence. Our body requires water to function properly. Water helps clear the body of toxic and waste substances. Water regulates the overall functioning of the body.
But how it impacts our weight needs more observation and knowledge than what is being claimed by many.
Here are few myths and facts on water and its impact on weight loss:

Water itself does not have any weight loss property. Water aids weight loss when it is coupled with different herbs and spices which have the compounds that can help in weight loss.

When water is replaced by caffeinated drinks and beverages, it does improve the health and reduces the weight in an individual; but here caffeinated drinks are the culprits.
No. It is not. Overdoing anything has an adverse effect. If you drink more water than what is put to use by your body you may suffer from a condition called water toxicity. In this case, the sodium level in the body lowers. Lower levels of sodium in the body can also be fatal.

While this holds some truth, usually the hydration capacity of people vary. There are people who manage even with 6 glasses of water and then there are people who drink more than 8 glasses of water in a day.

Therefore it is better to let your thirst guide you when you want to drink water.
Yes. Water is filling in nature. People who embark on weight loss journeys are suggested to drink water before the meals as it can help in cutting down the portion size of the meal.

Many of us confuse water intake with hydration. Hydration is essential to the body. Through water intake we provide hydration to the body.

While there is a standard rule of water intake, mostly people drink water based on their needs.
There are several ways of having water other than having a glass of water: having fruits like watermelon that contain lots of water, having salad of cucumber and tomatoes which consist of lots of water.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research’s Dietary Guidelines for Indians a normal healthy adult should drink 2 litres of water every day. This can go up during summer season and also when any vigorous activity is performed.
