This Day In History, May 8th, 2022 – “Dog Show” – Signals AZ

It was just 145 years ago today, May 8, 1877, when the first ever Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show took place in the Westminster Hotel in Manhattan, New York. This makes the Dog Show one of the oldest consecutive events in U.S. History. Originally, the show was meant to “show off” hunting dogs, with the top prizes usually being elegant pistols.

Throughout our Nation’s History, despite war and other events, the Dog Show has continued unabated. All around the world, people view the different breeds and competitions with down right amassment. The dogged determination (pardon the pun) of the competitors is a sight to see. 145 years ago today, Americans “let the dogs out”, and it still keeps going today.
